Fire Rings For Safety While Camping Or at Home

Camping is an incredibly popular form of recreation during the nice weather. One of the main things that makes camping so much fun is gathering around the campfire. The fire is both fun and functional as it keeps us warm on chilly nights, it helps keep bugs away, and many of us love cooking over an open fire whether it is a full meal or just s'mores.

Why Use A Fire Ring
But fires can be very dangerous so it is vital to follow some basic safety precautions, especially in certain parts of the country. We have all seen the stories showing the damage an out of control fire can cause.

One of the things you can do to help keep a fire contained is buy or build a fire ring. Fire rings help keep ashes from blowing around to help prevent the spread of the flames, but they also make it more pleasant to sit around the fire. You can build one with large stones or rocks but make sure you have enough to completely surround the open flame and make sure the rocks are tall enough.

Types Of Fire Rings
If you are unsure what types of rocks or stone will be in the area you may want to take a portable fire ring with you. You can buy ones that you can fold and bring in a back with you then you know you will be ready once you arrive at your destination.

Many fire rings also have the option of a grilling grate in case you want to cook over the open flame. They work great to hold pots, pans or an outdoor coffee maker to get you going in the morning.

If you have a safe area on your property where you would like to put a fire pit you may want to look at one of the decorative metal fire rings. Some have shapes of outdoor scenery or animals cut out of the walls so when you have the fire going you can see the images dancing off in the distance. These can be especially fun for kids. They also show kids a clear border so you can explain how far they should stand from the flames.
